Mayan Ruins in Belize
The Cayo District in Belize is one of the most visited areas of Belize. It is the home of many of the Ancient Maya Ruins. Cayo is home to the largest Maya site of Caracol (right), and the most photographed ruin of Xunantunich (left) as well as offering the best in canoeing, river rafting, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking in Belize.
Cahal Pech is a major Mayan ceremonial center located on a tall hill overlooking the town of San Ignacio. The El Pilar Archaeological Reserve for Maya Flora and Fauna is located just 12 miles (approximately 19 kilometers) north of the western Belizean town of San Ignacio, astride the Belize-Guatemala border.
